The latest release of the Facebook application now offers chat and push notifications.
The chat feature allows users to chat with their Facebook friends directly from their smartphone with a background mode allowing them to use other application as well.
The push notification update alerts users of new incoming messages or other similar information.
The Android Facebook application which is still at version 1.5 is still lagging behind its Apple counterpart version (3.0), but with this new release, the differences are getting less and less noticeable. In either version thought, because of the smartphone smaller format, browsing your Facebook account still isnt to par with the Facebook.com website.
The Facebook application for Android is now available as a free download from the Android Market.
