Sony’s SmartWatch available now on Verizon Wireless

The Sony Android watch is now available on Verizon Wireless. The 1.3 inch OLED display device runs Android and works as an extension to your Android smartphone via bluetooth.

Thanks to the Sony SmartWatch, you’ll never miss any more calls and messages. The watch will alert you by vibrating or by beeping if it needs to remind you of anything. You can read your mail, SMS, tweets, Facebook messages and even check the weather forecast directly from your wrist.

As a stand alone Android device, you’ll also have access to the Google Play store where you can download more apps.

There’s just one little problem, the Sony SmartWatch seems to be compatible only with a limited number of devices.
One main requirement, your Android device must be running Android 2.1 or higher.
Motorola’s tablet such as the Motorola Xoom as well as Motorola’s smartphone Droid Bionic, Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX are among compatible devices. Verizon also lists the Casio G’zOne Commando as a compatible device.

If you look at Sony’s website, you’ll find that the SmartWatch should also be compatible with the “HTC Desire S, HTC Wildfire, HTC Wildfire S, Motorola Defy, Motorola Droid 2/Milestone 2, Motorola RAZR, Orange San Fransisco, Samsung Galaxy 5, Samsung Galaxy Ace, Samsung Galaxy Fit, Samsung Galaxy Gio, Samsung Galaxy Mini, Samsung Galaxy S II, Samsung Galaxy SL”, as well as most of Sony’s Xperia Android device including Sony’s Tablet P and S. We say should be compatible because they’re not listed on Verizon’s website, so be careful if you have one of those device.

The price? $149.97 and you’ll get that very nice Android Sony SmartWatch. Looks like a pretty cool extension of your Android device to me. Don’t you think?
