Skype Android app privacy flaw

The Android App for Skype was launched six month ago and has attracted over 10 millions of users.

Unfortunately for those users, an important flaw has been found in the Skype app. The Skype app stores all users information in unencrypted folders on your device. A mal intended individual with a bit of tech savvyness, could easily access all of your personal information including but not limited to your account balance, full name, date of birth, address, phone numbers, chat log conversations and more. I guess the only good point in all this is that no credit card information is stored.

Note that this issue is not the result of an exploit or hack, but rather just a poor design flaw in terms of security. Skype should better protect these sensitive files with stricter permissions. It should also encrypt the users personal data/ information in order to better protect its users privacy.

Skype is taking this issue very seriously and is taking immediate action to secure “the file permissions on the Skype for Android application.”
