HCL enters the tablet market

India electronics based company HCL is launching 3 different Android tablets. These tablets will run Android Froyo 2.2 operating system, and not the optimized Android Honeycomb 3.0 for tablets; at least not for now.
These 3 tablets will come in different sizes and flavors, two 7-inch versions will be available and one 10-inch version. These HCL ME tablets will come with HCL Touch functionality, similar to HTC Sense, by letting users connect to local content and HCL custom service.

Here’s a more detailed preview of these tablets.

HCL ME Tablet AE7-A1 (7-inch) is the low end version of the 3, with a price tag of Rs. 14,990 ( $340.00 USD).
It will run on a Low Power ARM 11, 800MHz Processor, with a 7 inch Resistive Touch Display with 800 x 480-pixel resolution.
In terms of memory, it will have 256MB of RAM and a built-in 2GB NAND Flash memory with possible memory expansion up to 8GB through Micro SD card.
GPS, Wi-Fi Support 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth and G Sensor (support rotation) completes the technical specs of this tablet.
One disappointing feature is the low end camera with only 0.3MP, when nowadays most devices come with at least 2MP.

HCL ME Tablet AM7-A1 (7-inch) is aimed for the middle class consumer with a price tag of Rs. 22990 ( $520.00 USD).
It will run on a High-performance Cortex A8, 800MHz Processor, with a 7 inch Resistive Touch Display with 800 x 480-pixel resolution.
In terms of memory, it will have 512MB of RAM and a built-in 8GB NAND Flash memory with possible memory expansion up to 16GB through Micro SD card.
GPS, Wi-Fi Support 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth, 3G and G Sensor (support rotation) completes the technical specs of this tablet.
The camera on this tablet is also not the greatest with only 1.3MP, interesting fact thought, full HD 1080p should be supported.

HCL ME Tablet AP10-A1 (10-inch) is the high end of these 3 tablets at a retail price of Rs. 32,990 ( $750.00 USD).
It will run on a High-performance, low-power system, Cortex A9, 1GHz Processor, with a 10 inches super slim capacitive multitouch display with 1024 x 600 pixel resolution.
In terms of memory, it will have 1GB of RAM and a built-in 16GB NAND Flash memory with possible memory expansion up to 32GB through Micro SD card.
GPS, Wi-Fi Support 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth, 3G and G Sensor (support rotation) with 3D Accelerometer Light Sensor completes the technical specs of this tablet.
The camera on this tablet is also not the greatest especially for the price with only 1.3MP, interesting fact thought, full HD 1080p should be supported and one HDMI port is available.

HCL’s new Android tablets should become available through HCL stores by the end of the month. Its success will rely mostly on prices, as it will have to compete against major players such as Apple’s Ipad 2 and Samsung Galaxy Tab.
Personally, Honeycomb would have been good, as well as dual cameras, as it is becoming a standard for video conferencing; at least in their high-end version.
