Motorola Xoom 2 now available in Australia via Telstra

Telstra and Motorola have just launched in Australia the successor to the Motorola Xoom – the Motorola Xoom 2. The Android based tablet will be running for the moment Android 3.2 Honeycomb rather than the anticipated Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich which should be ready in the near future.

The Motorola Xoom 2 is everything the Motorola Xoom was but better. That is, despite keeping the same 10-inch size, the Xoom 2 is lighter, faster and slimmer than its predecessor. The dual-core tablet is powered by a 1.2GHz processor, with 1GB of RAM and 32GB built-in storage expandable via microSD. The Xoom 2 also comes with dual-camera, a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and a 1.3 megapixel camera.

In terms of connectivity, the Xoom 2 comes with micro-HDMI and an infrared port allowing it to act as a universal remote control via Dijit app. As for now, the Motorola Xoom 2 is only available as a 3G device with no Wi-Fi-only models available for the moment.

The Bummer? Its price, at $720 with no contract, the Motorola Xoom 2 is on the expensive side of tablets. But if you take it with a Telstra data plan, it can be yours starting from $49 monthly.
