The US Army is getting high-tech.
Starting Monday, soldiers will start testing physically Android phones, Iphones and Ipads. Apps will also be tested to see if they meet the soldiers needs.
A good candidate of Android handsets for the Army would be the Casio G’zone Commando or even the Motorola Titanium as both phone meets military requirements. For now, the US Army is testing both the iOS platform and the Android platform.
The Android phones will have access to a special market place developed by soldiers and third-party developers, the Army Marketplace. Apps could have various utilities, such as getting news from soldiers in the front or streaming video from surveillance cameras.
A total of 85 apps were created for the army and will be tested next week.
Other use of apps could include providing fast and accurate medical care to injured soldier in the front.
An apps called – SoldierEyes, will act as a navigation utility helping soldiers targeting enemy and calculate their distance. The app uses Augmented Reality to calculate distances between targets. Smartphone apps can also behave as biometric devices to verify a soldiers identity.
In addition to all this, the US Army is looking for alternative power solutions. A good example could be solar battery charger. Getting good signal in remote places and ensuring its privacy is another challenge the US Army is facing. All this is to say that yes, Android is really getting everywhere, even on the battlefield.
