Motorola Android available in Korea

Android invasion to Korea has just started today with the launch of MotoROI by Motorola. This fourth Android handset by Motorola after the Dext, Droid/Milestone and Backflip will be sold exclusively in Korea and China (known as XT701).

The MotoROI comes with a 3.7 inch multi-touch screen, an 8MP camera with Xenon flash, 720p HD video recording capabilities, DMB-TV, A-GPS, WiFi, 3.5mm jack and even TV out and HDMI. Native memory is 8GB , plus a 32GB supporting microSD expansion slot. Software wise, the MotoROI will come loaded with Android 2.0 firmware, but should be updated to Android 2.1 firmware soon after.

This Android handset according to expert should shake the smartphone market which has been so far dominated by the Iphone in Korea. One advantage the MotoROI possesses is the digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB-TV) which includes FM radio, that korean use everyday; a feature lacking in the Iphone.

SK Telecom will sell the Motoroi in Korea starting from next month. The cost of the phone is estimated to be around 900,000 won (800 U.S. dollars), but the sale price will be around 200,000 won (178 dollars), a price very similar to that of the iPhone.
